We are exploring different approaches for conducting program-level cost studies at our community college.

We are searching for examples of how other institutions structure these studies—whether through templates, methodologies, or completed reports.

If your college has recently done a cost analysis by program or department and is willing to share resources or insights, I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you for your time and any examples you can provide!

Hi Keitha,

This is Ursula Holtzapple from NACUBO.

I have two possible answers for you. The first is series of toolkits from NACUBO's Student Success Hub (https://nacubostudentsuccess.org/), and there is even a toolkit finder to help you get started (https://app.nacubostudentsuccess.org/public/survey). You have to sign up to use the Hub, but it's totally free. The Hub has a program scanner toolkit that might be a good place for you to start.

I'll also mention that NACUBO Consulting has a Cost of Instruction service, which builds a model that analyzes the revenues and costs of an institution's individual schools, programs, and degrees. If you'd like to learn more about what that might look like for your institution, reach out to consulting@nacubo.org to find a time to chat.
