What on-going training programs have institutions using Workday implemented for training new hires and/or employees changing position that have new responsibilities in WD? Do you use a formal training program, checklists, videos, job aides, etc? We are working on putting together a training program and are curious what a successful training program has looked like for other schools.

Hi Stefanie, Cornell uses a combination of applications, tools and processes for training new hires and individuals changing positions within the University.  I would be happy to connect separately and share with you my experiences here and what tools, applications and processes we've used for job training.  If interested, feel free to send me some dates and times for next week and we could Zoom.  My email is rt392@cornell.edu.

Hi Rebecca, I'm curious to know the same.  Our go-live for Workday is September 2026 for the HR & Financials interface.  We have an Organizational, Development, and Training dept. which will be offering "Train the Trainer" sessions, but I'm not sure what it will entail.  Any helpful information you can provide will be an invaluable asset at this point.

    Hi Rebecca,

I am also interested in seeing how other institutions handle this type of training.  At Colby, I tend to handle the training for New Hires, but it is not a mandatory training, and our turnout is never high.  I'd like to know what tools/job aids/etc you use and what your process looks like.  We have tried different things here, but nothing seems to stick, and our office ends up spending a lot of time explaining how to use or perform certain tasks in WD when it could have been handled through the training we provide.

    Thanks,

    Jessie

We have a new hire training to provide some overview of Workday here at WashU. We have also developed plans based on security groups we recommend for people to complete as those security groups are assigned. We have a searchable site for topics to find information needed in the moment including reference guides, tutorials, and updates.

At Miami University, we have a Workday Wednesday hour long zoom that is open to q & a. The leaders in each department attend to answer questions and our Workday Lead is on as well. We also have a Workday Google Chat to post questions in that the Hive Mind can respond to or tag people they know can help answer questions. Both started when we went live in July 2024 and continue still. Our HR department has created videos for all steps and our Finance team is working videos for the same.
